DIRECT SEED (recommended) — Where winters are mild, cornflowers can be sown in autumn. The plants can handle mild frost. Autumn or early spring/late winter sown cornflowers will have superior stem length and quality. Sow seeds thinly in rows, 6 seeds per 30cm, 6mm deep. Cover lightly. Keep soil surface moist until emergence. When seedlings have first true leaves, thin to 15-20cm apart.

TRANSPLANT — As plants are sensitive to root disturbance, sow into soil blocks. Sow seeds 2 per block, 6mm deep. Cover lightly. Can be tricky to start indoors - chill seed (in fridge) for 10-14 days to assist. Plan to transplant within 3-4 weeks – before roots the edge of the blocks. Grow at 10-12°C during the night for several weeks to develop a root ball.

HARVEST/VASE LIFE- Harvest flowers when 1/4-1/2 open. If picking entire sprays, cut when half the flowers on a spray are open. Expect a vase life of 7 days.
