Strawflower 'Fairy Tutu Mix'
Strawflower 'Fairy Tutu Mix'
Bracteantha bracteata
Easy to grow, prolific bloomers, with a color variation- found in the layers of unusual, multi petalled, papery blooms. Flower colours range from pale ivory - yellow, apricot - peach, pale pink - raspberry, deep yellow-burnet orange. Equally attractive fresh in bouquets or mixed into dried flower arrangements as the colour lasts. Plants are tall and well branched with blooms that mix with brights AND pastels adding interest late spring - autumn.
Each bloom would make a gorgeous ballerina tutu…for a fairy! They are a great addition to cut flower arrangements with a long vase life and a colour that changes as they age.
If you are cutting for drying, ensure the blooms are cut as buds and hung upside down until the stem dries. Keep harvesting for continuous blooms. Does self seed in some climates.

TRANSPLANT (Recommended): Start seed indoors in trays 6 weeks before transplant date. While cold hardy, transplant when threat of frost has passed.
Seed requires light to germinate so do not cover.
HARVESTING/VASE LIFE: Pick when 1/3-1/2 of the petals have opened but the tight bud is still covering the pollen. Vase life about 7 days.
If harvesting to dry, remove foliage and hang upside down. You can also put floral wire into the stem close to the bloom right after harvesting and the stem will dry onto the wire. Ensure flowers for drying are only 1/3 open as they continue to open while drying. Dry in a warm, dark place.
