Autumn - Winter leek with a long, well wrapped shaft that holds extremely well in the field. The strong upright green, blue leaves make cultivating easier.

Delft produced one of the heaviest leeks in our 2020 leek trial and sized up as quickly as and in some cases better than very popular market grower varieties such as ‘Tadorna’, ‘Striker F1’, ‘King Richard’ and ‘Bandit’ . This heirloom variety from Holland produced a large, white shank, longer the other Winter varieties, with minimal hilling. If you only grow one leek, we found Delft to be good from Autumn through late Winter, holding well in the field, and only developing a core in early Spring.

TRANSPLANTS (recommended) - Sow in deep flats (we use black bulb trays) in August or 10-12 weeks before transplanting, 6mm apart, 6mm deep, in rows 10-15cm apart. If needed, thin after germination.

As they grow, hill the soil within the tray, beginning to blanch the shank.

Transplant when the leek is pencil thickness, pruning the roots to 2-3cm. Dibble holes 20-25cm deep, 20cm apart i rows 25 cm apart and drop leek in. Only the top 3-5cm of the leaves need to be exposed. DO NOT COVER WITH SOIL. Water in and allow soil to slowly fill in hole over the next 2-3 weeks, ensuring the leek is straight.

Once the leek is actively growing tall, begin slightly hilling as you cultivate, further blanching the shank.
