Spring Planting for the Summer CSA!

Hoeing Capsicums ahead of a storm

We are excited that our Summer Share boxes will be starting up again in early January. We have been busy over the Spring getting our crops seeded in the glasshouse and out into the field. The soil had two good green manure crops in the Winter and Spring and the farm is now filling up with vegetables for the Summer.

The weather has certainly kept us on our toes - very hot days following a long stretch of no rain, heavy winds, fronts moving through and a late frost last week...only averted by the winds which blew all night!  We feel happy with the vitality of our crops in how they have coped with so many differences.

Garlic ready for harvest!

Garlic ready for harvest!

Our Garlic Crop is getting very close to being ready for Harvest. The harvest involves pulling the garlic, sorting the garlic and then bunching and hanging in our packing shed. It is a big job - but it is a fun day - if you are local and would like to help for the day - or a portion of the day - please email us - the more hands the quicker we get through it!!!

We have made some changes to the way our CSA will operate this coming year - As well as our normal home delivery service, we will provide a market style CSA pick up and we will have just one box size that can be received weekly or fortnightly.  Peter has completely redone our website and all the information about our CSA Summer Share and our new online farm store (where you can join our CSA) are there!

On the "official" first day of Summer, we have a beautiful sunny day after rain in the night to continue our "work"  of nurturing crops.  We are in the steady rhythm of seeding, watering, planting, weeding all in hopes of bountiful harvests!! Hope your Summer is fruitful too!!
