Phaseolus vulgaris
- Early producing productive Heirloom
- Tolerates cooler soils
- Disease resistance
A dependable early bush (dwarf) bean that earns its place in our garden year after year. ‘Provider’ produces generous crops of straight, round green pods around 15–17 cm long that are tender, crisp and stringless when picked young. The compact plants grow about 45–50 cm tall and don’t require staking, making them easy to grow in garden beds or larger containers. One of the first beans ready to harvest, it germinates well in cooler soils and is suited to early spring sowing. Pick regularly to encourage plants to keep flowering and producing over a long harvest period. A productive heirloom with good disease resistance and pods well suited to fresh eating, freezing or preserving.

DIRECT SEED (Recommended) - Provider beans can tolerate cooler soil temperature than most beans. For quick germination and better growth, wait for the soil temperature to warm to at least 22°C but preferably 25°C. Sow 2.5cm deep at 5cm spacing, 2 rows per 75cm bed. Do not thin. For a continuous supply make successive sowings every 2–3 weeks through midsummer.
TRANSPLANT - Not recommended
HARVEST - At green stage, pick when pods are plump for fresh eating - and pick regularly to encourage new pod set.
