Capsicum annuum
- Sweet rich flavour
- Cute mini size perfect for lunchboxes and snacking
- Heavy yields across a long season
- Beautiful deep red colours when fully mature
Sweet Mini Red produces glossy deep-red fruits with a rich, sweet pepper flavour balanced by remarkable depth and savoury complexity. Chefs have commented that all of the Sweet Minis possess a full-bodied flavour rarely found in snack-sized capsicums.
The crunchy, thick-walled fruits are the perfect size for crudités, lunchboxes, roasting, and fresh eating straight from the plant. With minimal seeds and exceptional sweetness, they are difficult to stop picking.
Our breeding work on Sweet Mini Red focused on flavour, uniform fruit size, productivity, and upright plant architecture for easy harvest, alongside strong fruit set during cooler spring conditions.
Plants produce abundant yields of 55–80mm elongated fruits that ripen from green to a glossy fire-engine red.
- 55 days green
- 70–85 days red
We began developing the Sweet Minis by working with hybrid seed and gradually stabilising each colour through careful selection over multiple generations to create open-pollinated varieties adapted to organic growing systems. As with all open-pollinated seed, occasional off-types may still appear.

TRANSPLANTS (recommended)- Sow seeds into shallow flats, 4 seeds/2.5cm about 8 weeks prior to transplanting. If possible, maintain soil temperatures at 27-32°C. Capsicum seeds germinate very slowly in cooler soil. When the first true leaves appear, transplant seedlings into 5cm cell-type containers or 10cm pots. Grow plants at approx. 21°C day and 16°C nights. Harden off plants by slightly reducing temperature to 15-18°C and reducing water for 2-3 days before transplanting.
Transplant out after frost when the soil is warm and weather is settled. Ideal seedlings have buds, but no open flowers. Set plants 30-45cm apart in rows 60-90cm apart, or 2 rows with 45cm between plants.
NOTE – 'Days to Maturity' are from transplant to green fruit. Fruit continues to mature on the plant to red. The flavour also sweetens as the fruit fully matures.
