A striking carrot with vibrant magenta-purple skin and glowing orange flesh, Dragon combines exceptional sweetness with gourmet flavour. This vigorous 15–17cm Danvers-type carrot performs across the seasons, staying sweet through summer heat while holding its quality well into the colder months. A favourite with children and adults alike, it's just as delicious eaten fresh from the garden as it is roasted, steamed or added to soups.

Highlights

  • Vibrant magenta-purple skin with glowing orange-yellow flesh.
  • Outstanding sweet flavour with a fine texture and thin skin.
  • Stays sweet through summer heat and overwinters well.
  • Excellent for fresh eating, roasting, soups and juicing.
  • Selected at Transition Farm for sweetness, colour and a fine, small core.

Our experience: Dragon was consistently the first carrot chosen by children in our CSA. Its exceptional sweetness and striking colour made it a favourite throughout the year, proving that the best-tasting carrots don't have to be orange.

DIRECT SEED (recommended) - Sow carrots when soil temperature is 18°C or above. Work soil well prior to planting as a softer soil allows roots to develop uniformly. Plant seeds 4-5mm deep in rows 20-25cm apart. Cover seed lightly. KEEP MOIST and do not let it dry out. Thin seedlings to 2.5-5cm. Keep area free of weeds

NOTE - Many growers plant multiple successions of carrot during a season to ensure continuous harvest. Moisture levels must be consistent from the time of planting and is essential for good root formation, texture and flavor.
