Apium graveolens
- Self blanching
- 45-60cm tender, crunchy, non stringy, stalks
- Uniform production in less then ideal growing conditions
- Versatile 4 season celery
This self blanching variety is sweet flavoured while still full of juicy, mineral-ness. Its long, tender, crunchy, non stringy, stalks are a glowing apple green colour. Early to mature and thriving in less then ideal situations, ‘Fingal’ is superb!
Start early in the spring but best not transplanted until night temperatures are above 15C. Bolting may occur if young plants experience more than ten days below 13C.
In our Southern Victoria setting, plants sown in February, can be side harvested throughout winter given slight protection.
Can be grown 2 rows per 75cm bed with plant spacing from 20-30cm.
We have been improving this variety since 2020, searching for plants that are vigorous, early, rich in mineral juiciness and do not require a compost side dressing - These are plants which have thrived in our low input system. ‘Fingal’ has consistently produced well in less then ideal growing conditions.
This variety has been grown by market growers in our area for as long as we have lived here and probably longer!
