Cosmos bipinnatus
Cosmos 'Cupcake Blush' is a wondrous collection of white and shades of soft pink flowers all characterized by joined petals, and a serrated petal edge- like a cupcake paper or the tutu of a spinning ballerina.
- stocky tall plants
- very profuse producer on long stems
The mix includes doubles and sometimes the petal fusion isn't complete which can be quite fluffy and stunning.
Stocky, tall plants produce a profusion of blooms on long stems with feathery foliage. Cosmos bloom throughout the summer if kept harvested and/or deadheaded.
Back in 2007, Diane Engdahl of Santa Rosa, California, sent Thompson and Morgan seed company in the UK seeds an unusual cosmos growing in her back yard. Instead of having separate petals like most cosmos, all petals were fused into one single cup, completely changing the normally daisy-looking flower. Since then their breeders have been busy fixing the unusual trait and refining the habit of this uniquely shaped 'cupcake' cosmos - single and semi double blooms.
