Trachymene coerulea

Available July 2026 – Email Notification

Sweet-scented, super-productive cut flower with airy, intricate, umbel like disks covered in dainty white flowers. It makes a fantastic filler and adds a wonderful wildflower feel to a bouquet and the garden.

  • Sweet scented
  • Very productive
  • 5-8 cm umbel covered in white flowers
  • Drought tolerant once established

White, 5-8cm blooms are held aloft on stiff stems that are filled with additional buds. Flowers have a mild, clean fragrance and delicate appearance.

Its delicate texture pairs beautifully with romantic flowers like sweet peas and roses, while its branching stems and long, slender lines make it ideal for adding lightness and movement to bouquets without visual heaviness.

Didiscus prefers cool but frost free temperatures and well-drained soil. It also appreciates some afternoon shade in hot summer locations. Plant habit is branching and upright with few leaves.

Plants can produce blooms for up to two months. Harvest the entire plant at once for ease in handling.

Native to Australia, drought tolerant once established.

DIRECT SEED (recommended): In cold climates plant in the spring around the time of last frost and protect from any late frosts. In tropical or sub-tropical areas plant Didiscus in the autumn or winter when temperatures stay cool.  Cover seeds as darkness aids germination. Successive sowing every 2-3 weeks, spring through summer. While transplanting is possible, plants dislike root disturbance so we recommend seeding directly into the soil for best results.

TRANSPLANT: Sow 4–6 weeks before last frost - plants like the cold but are not frost hardy. Sow 1-2 seeds per block and cover with vermiculite as they like darkness. Plants dislike root disturbance and we have good results using soil blocks and transplanting just as the roots reach the edge of the blocks.  Transplant 22cm apart in rows 20-35cm apart. Plants perform better protected from late afternoon, hot sun. Flowers may show browning if planted in full sun in hot climates.

HARVESTING/VASE LIFE: Flowers are wilt prone so harvest in the coolest part of the day. Each spray contains a mass of buds.  Harvest when at least one flower is open - but the centrer has not fully popped. Harvest the entire plant at once for ease in handling. Strip stems of foliage and place immediately into cool water after cutting.  Can be stored in the cooler, but only for a short time. Expect a vase life of 7 days. A floral preservative helps, as didiscus can be sensitive to bacterial buildup in the vase.
