Lactuca Sativa
Butterhead Bibb or Boston type. Good for autumn and spring planting, Buttercrunch has set the standard for the classic butterhead lettuce - 20-25cm heads with light green, thick outer leaves and loosely folded, thick, creamy inner leaves that are not bitter. Slow to bolt and frost hardy.
- Crisp and sweet
- Great for head production and baby leaf
- Cold (light frost) and heat tolerant
- Works well at small scale, intensive planting spacing
- All American Selection 1963 bred by Cornell University in New York state
Buttercrunch forms a small, open but tightly bunched, 15cm rosette that is fan-shaped rather than round. Dark green leaves and small compact hearts that blanch to an appetising yellow colour. Crisp and sweet. Pick baby leaves at 28 days.
Bolting tolerant.
