A great heirloom butterhead standard, red tinged and well-folded leaves form a heavy, blanched head. Tighter than ‘Marvel of Four Seasons’ and more of a brick red. This was the best butterhead in our trials for resistance to downy mildew, Sclerotinia, bacterial head rots, and tip-burn. A beauty from the Alps that still retains high status among butter lettuces for flavor and box-filling productivity. Our breeding began with seed preserved by Frank Morton at Wild Garden Seed.

This mid-framed, dense headed, superb colour and flavoured lettuce washes easily without bruising. The uniformity in head density and maturity make it worthy of market garden space.
